Description
Explores vallenato music, a rocking blues which evolved out of the marijuana-growing regions of Columbia. It is a hot, jumpy dance music which mixes accordians, electric bass, percussion and open-throated singing. Vallenato absorbed the local traditions from the vibrantly rhythmic, African-rooted cumbia music to the traditional flute music of various Indian peoples to become the soundtrack for the wide-open lifestyle of gambling and carousing fueled by drug profits.
